During this season of gratitude, it seems some individuals are opting to spread intolerance instead, as shown by the #AnywhereButTarget movement. Those still feeling upset about Target’s inclusive restroom policy, which allows individuals to use the facilities that match their gender identity, are choosing to shop elsewhere this holiday season. And honestly, we couldn’t be more thrilled—more parking spaces and bigot-free shopping aisles for us!
The #AnywhereButTarget boycott is spearheaded by a conservative group called 2nd Vote, which helps those with less-than-progressive views know where to take their business, while simultaneously guiding decent folks on where to spend their hard-earned cash. After reading this, you might find yourself ready to give Target your entire paycheck this festive season.
According to 2nd Vote: “Are you frustrated with the liberal agenda invading our schools and workplaces? Fed up with corporations promoting a radical agenda that threatens our values and safety? This Christmas, we’re sending a clear message to one of the biggest corporate sponsors of the liberal, LGBT movement. We’re shopping #AnywhereButTarget because we don’t believe conservatives should support Target’s dangerous social agenda.”
Because, you know, nothing screams “decency” like further marginalizing an already vulnerable group. I can just imagine what Jesus would say about that, right?
And the alleged danger! If you’ve been keeping up with the news, surely you’ve heard about the supposed surge of sexual assaults in Target bathrooms since they implemented their inclusive policy. According to the narrative, countless men, who definitely aren’t transgender, are supposedly using this policy to sneak into women’s restrooms to attack innocent girls. It’s a crisis, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Except, that’s complete nonsense. There haven’t been any verified cases of men disguising themselves as women to commit such acts in Target bathrooms. In fact, studies show that in 75% of child sexual abuse cases, the abuser is someone the child knows. The idea that men are using Target’s policy to invade women’s spaces is utterly baseless.
The site also rambles about the First Amendment and how radical it is to allow individuals to use the facilities that align with their gender identity. In their skewed perspective, rights only apply to cisgender individuals.
But hey, this just means we get to enjoy our holiday shopping without running into individuals who endorse these harmful ideas. While they navigate through crowded malls, we can stroll through our favorite store, waving at fellow open-minded shoppers, delighted to spend even more on Target’s fabulous items. Just when we thought our admiration for them couldn’t grow, they continue to uphold their policy of treating everyone with respect.
