Dear Little One,

Tomorrow marks your first day of second grade! Wow, how exciting! I know you’re not thrilled about heading back. You’d much rather be outside playing baseball or soccer with your friends, sorting through your collection of football cards, or diving into the pool for the thousandth time. You’d prefer to watch movies filled with superheroes, secret tunnels, and magical realms. Searching for bugs or cool rocks under the porch sounds way more fun. Riding your bike, enjoying popsicles, and jumping into the lake with your cousins is where you’d rather be.

But here we are, summer is coming to an end, and it’s time to embrace the new school year. I’m genuinely happy for you; it warms my heart to know you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer filled with magic. However, now it’s time to shift gears.

Before we dive into this new chapter, let me share some important secrets with you—secrets that you must always carry in your heart.

Secret 1: Superheroes Are Everywhere

First, superheroes aren’t limited to storybooks, movies, or video games. They’re all around us, from the people walking by on the street to those shopping at Target. And guess what? You get to be around a superhero nearly every day—your teacher! They wear a cape of patience and carry a magical bag filled with lessons about math, science, reading, and how to be a kind person.

A true superhero makes a positive impact on others’ lives. That’s your teacher and all your educators. Treat them with kindness, listen attentively, and help them with their important work. This respect and effort empower them to be even greater superheroes. And by doing this, you become a superhero too!

Secret 2: Breathe Through Challenges

The second secret is this: when challenges arise—and they will—remember that a few deep breaths can make everything a bit easier to handle. You’re a sensitive soul, just like me, and sometimes things can feel overwhelming. Whether it’s a tricky math problem or someone hurting your feelings, you might feel like hiding away.

But remember, you’re never truly alone. Your dad and I are always with you, supporting you wholeheartedly. Even if it feels like you’re on an island, just take those deep breaths, know we’re with you, and listen to your heart. You’ll navigate your way through.

Secret 3: You Are the Magic

Now, for the third secret, which might be the most vital: the magic you felt this summer? It’s not going anywhere. The truth is, the magic lies within you. You are the magic!

You’ve heard us say, “Be the best version of yourself.” You don’t have to be like anyone else; just focus on being the best you can be. It’s not always easy, but if you breathe deeply, listen to your heart, and remember that little piece of our hearts with you, I know you can do it. When you embrace who you are and sprinkle your magic around, you empower others to discover their own.

Embrace the Journey

Ultimately, school—and life—is about learning, growing, and sharing that magic. So don’t worry! Second grade is going to be fantastic! You’ll discover new things, meet new friends, and encounter even more superheroes. Be kind, be a good listener, and share your magic.

And when you come home, I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures because every moment, I’m thinking of you and cheering you on.

With all my love,
Mom
