Dear Grandparents,
We are incredibly grateful for your willingness to look after the kids next week while my partner and I enjoy our first vacation in years. However, to ensure a smooth experience, I’ve compiled a list of things to avoid during your time together.
- Do Not Overindulge with Sugary Treats: While I appreciate your generosity, please refrain from filling the kids with candy. Their excitement can quickly turn into chaos, and I’d rather not return to hyperactive children.
- Limit Screen Time: Keeping the TV on all day is not advisable. A constant barrage of loud shows can lead to overstimulation and irritability, making it challenging for everyone involved.
- Stick to Approved Shows: It’s essential to adhere to the list of shows that we’ve deemed appropriate for them. Introducing them to unfamiliar programs can lead to behavioral changes that I’d prefer to avoid.
- Safety First: Please ensure that seat belts, car seats, and helmets are always used. The safety of the children is paramount, and all precautions should be taken seriously.
- Supervise Outdoor Play: Allowing them to play outside for extended periods without supervision is not safe. It’s crucial to know who they are playing with and to ensure their well-being.
- Bedtime Routines Matter: Bedtime is a set time, and it shouldn’t be disregarded. Activities should not commence close to bedtime as this can disrupt their sleep schedule.
- School Matters: Please ensure that they do not skip school or any scheduled activities while we are away. Consistency in their education is vital for their development.
- Avoid Unwanted Gifts: Upon our return, I’d prefer not to find noise-making toys, art supplies, or pets that weren’t there when we left. If you feel the need to gift them something, consider practical items.
- Emergency Protocols: When I provide emergency contact information, please take it seriously. In case of an emergency, I need to know you can access the necessary numbers without hesitation.
- Communication is Key: If the children express that they miss us, please encourage them to reach out. Allow them to use devices to contact us, as maintaining that connection is important.
Thank you for your understanding and support. Enjoy your time together, and remember, the goal is to return to happy, healthy kids.
