When I became a mother to two amazing boys, I immediately knew how I wanted to guide them through life. Having faced my share of difficult people, I also understood what I definitely didn’t want in their upbringing. While they may occasionally act out, I’m committed to instilling valuable lessons to help shape them into decent human beings. Here’s what I want them to know:
-
It’s Not About Size
Sure, I’m referring to physical attributes like muscles and even financial standing, but life is more than that. There will always be someone who seems to have more. Instead of chasing after the biggest or best of everything, focus on what truly matters—being a good person. Surround yourself with those who appreciate you for who you are, not what you own. -
Drive Responsibly
Whether you’ve just gotten your license or you’re behind the wheel of a flashy new car, remember: driving recklessly doesn’t make you cool. You’re not invincible and being considerate on the road is paramount. You won’t impress anyone with careless driving. -
Communicate Clearly with Women
If you ever find yourself in an intimate situation and the answer is no, that’s final—no means no. It’s crucial to respect boundaries. If you seek a casual fling or a serious relationship, communicate your intentions clearly. Vulnerability can be tough, but honesty is always the best policy. -
Be Observant
Pay attention to the world around you. If it’s a beautiful evening, take a moment to stargaze. If someone needs help and you’re able to assist, step up. Small gestures like noticing a partner’s new haircut or their mood can go a long way. -
Kindness and Generosity Matter
Being generous and kind can open doors you never expected. Whether it’s tipping well, donating to causes, or simply giving your time, your actions can make a significant difference in others’ lives. Everyone has battles you may not see—remember that when you feel frustrated. -
Be True to Yourself
Don’t let others dictate who you should be. Embrace your uniqueness and own it. If others aren’t doing what you want to do, that might just be the reason to pursue it even more. -
Find a Soulmate
If marriage is in your future, choose wisely. Don’t settle for someone just to please me. Your happiness is what counts. Ensure that your partner brings joy and encouragement, and most importantly, inspires you in ways no one else can. -
Embrace Your Emotions
A man in touch with his feelings is incredibly attractive. If a moment moves you to tears—like that emotional Disney scene—don’t hold back. Expressing emotions is a sign of strength, not weakness. -
Seek Help When You Need It
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Surround yourself with supportive people who are willing to assist when times get tough. And remember, always be ready to return the favor. -
Actions Speak Louder than Words
If you commit to something, follow through. Before making promises, reflect on whether you truly mean them. Your actions define who you are more than your words. Aim to be a good man, not a perfect one. People may forget your words, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel.

In summary, raising sons to be compassionate, understanding, and respectful individuals is no small task. By instilling these lessons, I hope to guide them toward a fulfilling and meaningful life.
