Being a mom is an incredible journey, not just because my little ones rush toward me with open arms and bright smiles, but because it has introduced me to a unique sisterhood of extraordinary women. I’ve never felt such a strong connection with others in my life. Many lasting friendships have blossomed from simple moments at the park with a casual, “What a cute kid! How old is he?”

The mothers who have walked alongside me in this parenting adventure have transformed dull days into delightful ones and have alleviated my feelings of loneliness and self-doubt. I’ve looked up to many moms throughout this journey—the ones who seem to have it all figured out, those who exemplify incredible patience, and those who make every parenting choice with unwavering confidence.

Yet, I equally adore those who forget their diaper bags during playdates, the ones who mutter under their breath, and those who candidly admit, “I have no idea what I’m doing.” I find inspiration in the moms who nurse their children for years, just as much as in those who stock up on formula before their baby even arrives. I admire both the helicopter parents and the laid-back ones, knowing that both approaches are rooted in love. I’m amazed by the moms who feign interest in rounds of Candy Land and lead dinosaur parades in their living rooms. However, I hold the deepest appreciation for those who embrace their imperfections—moms who celebrate being authentically themselves, not just as caregivers, but as individuals.

Here are some of the moms I treasure the most:

  1. The one who arrived at the baby shower fashionably late, with a massive unwrapped box featuring a car seat on the side, then settled in without participating in baby bingo. I applaud her for owning her hot-mess vibe without apologies.
  2. The mom who confessed at the park that she felt lost without her nanny and revealed she once took her infant to Chili’s for a grown-up drink before preschool pick-up. Seriously, how does anyone manage a full day of parenting without help?
  3. The mom who invites me over without cleaning her house first. I admire her priorities—she chooses family time over a spotless home and doesn’t care about judgments regarding her messy floors.
  4. The mom who candidly calls her toddler a little terror. It’s refreshing to hear honesty when it comes to parenting!
  5. The mom who takes solo trips and enjoys regular girls’ nights, recognizing that motherhood isn’t a competition about who sacrifices more. Being a martyr doesn’t earn anyone a prize.
  6. The mom who doesn’t shy away from saying her partner can be annoying. We should respect our relationships, but it’s also vital to share relatable experiences to combat isolation.
  7. The mom who didn’t buy her newborn a fancy outfit for New Year’s Eve. She brushes off the pressure of social media and remains true to herself.
  8. The mom who serves her kids fish sticks and fries for dinner. While nutrition matters, sometimes you just need to make something they will eat without whining.
  9. The mom who got so flustered while putting on her son’s shoe that she accidentally drooled in it. With three kids under three, that’s completely understandable!
  10. The mom who mistakenly gave her child a spicy popsicle, only to realize it after hearing him cough in the back seat. We all misstep, but not every blunder leads to such a hilarious outcome.

If you’re an imperfect mom like me, let’s meet at the park. If you serve wine at your kid’s parties, count me in. If you’re keeping it real, thank you. Those who speak the unvarnished truth pave the way for others, inspiring authenticity, understanding, and a lot of laughter. Motherhood is not only about nurturing our children but also about forging meaningful friendships.

A heartfelt thank you to all the moms out there for keeping it real. It’s a joy to share this journey of motherhood with you.
