A Misguided Group Distributes Fat-Shaming Cards on the Subway

As if navigating the subway isn’t challenging enough, a misguided group has taken it upon themselves to distribute fat-shaming cards to unsuspecting commuters. Yes, individuals simply trying to go about their day on the London underground are confronted with cards that boldly proclaim “FAT” on the front, alongside an appalling message on the back.

The card reads: “Our organization hates and resents fat people. We object to the enormous amount of food resources you consume while half the world starves. We disapprove of your wasting NHS money to treat your selfish greed. And we do not understand why you fail to grasp that by eating less you will be better off, slimmer, happy and find a partner who is not a perverted chubby-lover, or even find a partner at all.”

To add insult to injury, it continues with, “We also object that the beautiful pig is used as an insult. You are not a pig. You are a fat, ugly human.”

Emily Carter, who received one of these cards during her morning commute, shared her experience on Twitter, expressing her outrage. She later posted on Facebook, stating, “I was handed this card this morning on the underground and I would appreciate if people tweeted, posted etc all over the internet. I am not upset myself. I am smaller than the national average and not exactly obese, but this is hateful and cowardly and could potentially upset people struggling with confidence and eating disorders. Please tweet and share this if you are also outraged. Plus – to the person who wrote this card, go back to school, you can’t spell ‘beautiful’.”

According to reports, the card was placed on Emily’s lap by a middle-aged man just before he exited the train. Another commuter, Daniel Roberts, tweeted about witnessing another woman receive a card as well. He remarked, “Oh sure — there’s not enough awful stuff happening in the world. Why not just travel around making people feel like utter garbage?”

London Transport police have encouraged individuals to report any sightings of these card distributors. While the identity of those behind this shameful act remains unclear, the cards have been linked to a website known as Slimgur, which describes itself as “the internet’s premier shitlord image host.” This term, often used on Reddit, refers to individuals who oppose the acceptance of overweight individuals. Speculation suggests that the creators may have ties to fat-shaming forums that were banned from Reddit following efforts to combat online harassment.

It’s disheartening to see such negativity in our society, but it’s important to remember that those who engage in such behavior often do so out of their own misery. It’s almost pitiful to think that a group of adults has nothing better to do than create poorly designed pamphlets to cowardly hand out before scurrying away like children caught misbehaving.
