JoJo Siwa recently took the stage at the GLAAD Media Awards, where she shared her heartfelt appreciation for her girlfriend, Kylie Prew, and conveyed a powerful message to her young fans about love and acceptance. The 17-year-old entertainer and former reality star emphasized the importance of being true to oneself and loving whomever you choose.
“I think it’s fantastic that kids everywhere can see that loving who you want is truly amazing,” Siwa remarked, expressing her pride in being a role model for her fans. She added, “Whether you want to fall in love with a girl, a boy, or someone who identifies as non-binary, love is beautiful. You should celebrate it!”
During her presentation of the award for outstanding children’s programming to The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo, Siwa gushed about her girlfriend, stating, “I have the best girlfriend in the entire world who makes me incredibly happy. That’s what matters most.”
Siwa first revealed her relationship in February on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she discussed the love and support she received upon coming out. She playfully mentioned how she ultimately decided to share her relationship on social media after talking with Prew.
Following her public announcement, Siwa received overwhelming support through social media, sharing a fun lip-sync of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and proudly wearing a “BEST GAY COUSIN EVER” T-shirt. However, she also faced some negativity, admitting, “I regretted looking up comments online after coming out. Many were not supportive, and it kept me awake for three nights.”
Despite the backlash, Siwa remains committed to being open about her relationship and hopes to inspire young people to embrace their identities and love freely.
