As Saturday Night Live amusingly pointed out in an episode featuring co-creator and star Dan Levy as the host, we all have a fascination with Zillow. It’s hard to resist spending our free moments endlessly scrolling through the real estate app, daydreaming about extravagant multimillion-dollar homes that are far out of our reach. Our latest fixation? The stunning photos of the Schitt’s Creek mansion, now on the market for an eye-popping $15 million.
Situated in Toronto, this 12-bedroom, 16-bathroom estate spans a remarkable 24,000 square feet, making it a true real estate gem. Just take a look at the grandeur:
“This distinctive and custom-designed home transports you back to the 17th century French architectural style,” the listing agent notes.
“This property is a limestone mega mansion in the French Chateau style, designed to evoke the feel of Versailles,” adds Max Jordan, CEO of Roomvu.com.
Dubbed “la belle mansion-lux” and featuring intricately carved limestone and frescoes reminiscent of the Sistine Chapel, the mansion first gained fame in the pilot episode of the Golden Globe-nominated Schitt’s Creek. After being listed since 2018, it has recently returned to the market with a reduced price of $14.98 million.
According to the Zillow listing, the mansion, constructed in 2012, was initially listed at $21.7 million two years ago.
“While it is a rare find, properties like this are notoriously difficult to sell,” Jordan remarked about the price. “With the new 15 percent Non-Resident Speculation Tax (NRST) for foreign buyers, finding a local buyer willing to pay such a high amount will be quite the challenge.”
In addition to an impressive 14 parking spaces, this luxurious home boasts a golf simulator, wine cellar, a home theater with eight seats, a billiard room, a fitness area, an indoor swimming pool, and a sauna.
But what’s notably absent? The over-sized Rose family portrait.
For those who haven’t re-watched the series yet, the opening scene of Schitt’s Creek’s pilot prominently features the sprawling mansion, capturing interior shots as revenue agents seize the family’s possessions. Alexis can be heard frantically exclaiming, “It’s absurd; people are just taking our stuff!”
Naturally, fans of Schitt’s Creek took to social media with jokes once the listing began circulating, including on the popular Instagram page, Zillow Gone Wild.
This listing follows the recent news that the motel used as the Rosebud Motel is also up for sale. Interestingly, the mansion has appeared in other popular series, including Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and Hulu’s 11.22.63.
