You’ll often find me parked in front of McDonald’s, sipping on a large Diet Coke. It’s a ritual I anticipate daily—akin to others waiting for their morning cup of coffee (or a bit of weekend fun; you get the idea). Each time I take a sip, it’s a delightful moment. The effervescence hitting the back of my throat is pure joy. There’s a reason their soda tastes exceptional: the perfect temperature combined with an ideal syrup-to-water ratio has many people coming back for more, even if they don’t admit it. And let’s be honest, those McDonald’s straws? Top-notch!

Just today, I filled my cup three times. So there it is: I absolutely love McDonald’s, and I have no qualms about it. I get that it’s not “cool” to profess a fondness for fast food. It’s more fashionable to discuss shopping at organic markets post-yoga (which, sure, I do as well), but I’m here to keep it real. My family and I generally eat healthy meals, but those days when we indulge? They are an absolute treat.

I adore that I can grab a soda (let’s be honest, it’s always a large) for just a dollar. On busy evenings, I can swing by the drive-thru and my kids are more thrilled than when I prepare a home-cooked meal that takes an eternity to make, only for them to resist every bite.

Walking into a McDonald’s is like entering a slice of paradise. The air is filled with that tantalizing scent of fries, and I embrace it with open arms. I love those quiet moments alone in my car, indulging in fries—two at a time (okay, maybe five). It’s a blissful $6 date with myself, and I relish every second of it.

Once, I even took my bag of fried goodness into a nail salon, and the receptionist was so entranced by the aroma that she dashed to the nearest McDonald’s to snag a meal for herself. We toasted our Diet Coke cups together and shared a moment of pure joy.

Growing up in the ‘80s meant I didn’t have to deal with the mom-shaming that plagues us today. My mom took us to McDonald’s a couple of times a month, and it felt like a special treat. I remember those hot summer days after a beach trip, enjoying the cool air conditioning and the irresistible scent of fries. My sisters and I would be so excited about which Happy Meal toy we’d get. One summer, they even served meals in colorful buckets, and we turned those into sandcastle-making tools long after the fries were gone.

When I’m battling PMS, you better believe I’m heading to McDonald’s for a large fries and a chocolate shake. The staff at my local spot know me so well; they’ll toss in two cherries with my shake, and that’s what I call exceptional service.

I’m fully aware of what goes into their food. Yes, it’s not organic. But my love for McDonald’s remains unwavering. No other place satisfies my cravings for fries and soda quite like they do. And oddly enough, when I’m recovering from a cold, I crave that Quarter Pounder. It transforms me from feeling weak to feeling like I can conquer the world. I devour it without a shred of guilt.

Sure, you might judge me for my fast-food obsession and for letting my kids join in, but I’m not giving up my McDonald’s love affair anytime soon. Because of Diet Coke. Because of fries. Because of shakes with cherries. Some days call for healthy salads, and others call for indulgent, crispy delights.
