10 Distractions That Keep Me From Focusing On My Gym Workout

If you’re making the most of your gym membership, pat yourself on the back — you’ve earned it! However, once you step inside, you’ll quickly realize that distractions are lurking around every corner, and they often multiply as you try to concentrate on your workout.

  1. “Why is she so perfectly put together?” While I’m rocking a messy bun and workout gear that looks like it came from the bottom of the laundry basket, there’s someone strutting in with a full face of makeup and hair that seems to have had a professional styling session. Seriously, do my shoelaces need to match my sports bra too?

  5. “I need that food!” As I prepare myself for a healthy dinner of quinoa and kale, the smell of gym staff microwaving their delicious meals is torture! I might just lead a protest against those tempting aromas.
  6. “How is that older gentleman outdoing me?” There’s a grandpa over there sprinting two miles and lifting weights that dwarf my own. Should I feel motivated or just throw in the towel?
  7. “Who does she think she is?” Everyone can’t help but gawk at the blonde beauty in her tiny shorts. Part of me wants to cheer her on, while another part thinks tripping her would be more satisfying.
  8. “Did someone just shoot me?” Nope, just a phone taking a tumble on the treadmill. It’s amazing how easily distractions can escalate in the gym!
  9. “Is this your home?” I get it, locker rooms can be personal spaces, but pick up after yourself! This isn’t your living room, and your mom isn’t here to clean up your mess.
  10. “Can anyone tell I’m checking myself out?” I need to see how my body is changing throughout my workout — but shhh, I can’t let anyone know I’m just here to work on my strength and maybe a little vanity!
