I can’t recall the last time I owned a pair of jeans that truly fit well—like, really fit—since the ’90s. Honestly. Back then, I had a fantastic bootcut pair from Mavi that looked amazing with either a casual sweatshirt or a chic pair of heels. The denim was both soft and sturdy, hugging my curves perfectly without the fear of revealing my thong every time I bent over to tie my shoes. Those jeans were everything. Sigh…
Since that golden era, every pair of jeans I’ve owned has fallen short in some way. Either the fabric was too stiff and uncomfortable, or it felt flimsy and insubstantial. I often found myself in awkward positions just to get them on, or they sagged in all the wrong spots. It was either a constant battle against showing my rear end when bending over, or feeling like my waist was being constricted by licorice every time I sat down.
I’ve tried it all: skinny jeans, straight legs, low rise, high-waist, boyfriend styles (which just look frumpy), and jeggings (which don’t even count as real jeans). I’ve explored a variety of sizes and brands, from budget-friendly options at Kohl’s and Target to high-end designer jeans from upscale department stores.
Yet, nothing fit correctly.
This brings me to a pressing question: What gives, folks?! (And can we bring back bootcut jeans?) We’ve achieved incredible feats as humans, from developing life-saving vaccines to launching people into space. And yet, we can’t seem to create a decent pair of jeans? What’s going on?!
I had nearly accepted that I would despise jeans for the rest of my life—until my friend Rachel quietly mentioned a revolutionary idea during one of my rants about the absurd struggle of finding jeans that work for me.
“Have you heard about the new elastic waistband jeans?” she asked.
“You mean jeggings? No way.” Because, as I mentioned, jeggings aren’t real jeans.
“No,” she replied. “These are authentic jeans but without zippers or buttons, just an elastic waistband. Kind of like maternity jeans, but not.”
At that moment, it felt like the skies opened up and a chorus of angels began to sing because, if there’s one type of jeans I remember being comfortable, it was my old maternity jeans.
Of course, I could have just kept wearing those maternity jeans indefinitely, but my youngest child is about to turn 8, meaning it was probably time to retire them. Thus began my quest to find this brilliant invention that would save me from unintentionally flashing the neighborhood kids when I wore denim.
A few days later, I discovered an affordable pair and loved them so much that I added another pair to my collection shortly thereafter.
Let me tell you, these jeans are a game-changer. They hold everything in place without squeezing my midsection, and I haven’t once revealed my backside! While I wouldn’t say they’re as cozy as my yoga pants, there might just be hope for mankind after all.
The only improvement I could wish for would be if they came in bootcut. Then again, I hear that style is making a comeback (was it ever out of style?). Maybe miracles really do happen.

Summary:
Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a frustrating journey, filled with sizes and styles that often disappoint. Despite advancements in many areas, the quest for comfortable, well-fitting jeans still eludes many. A recent discovery of elastic waistband jeans offers a glimmer of hope, proving that comfort and style can coexist.
