Facebook Filters I Wish Existed (and Posts I Can’t Get Enough Of)

For the longest time, I resisted joining Facebook. However, when my job required it, I reluctantly created an account and gradually found myself enjoying the platform. Now, I can easily lose hours scrolling through my feed. But let’s be honest—there are certain things we encounter that we simply can’t unsee. I often find myself wishing for filters to make my Facebook experience a bit more pleasant. (Don’t worry; I’ll get to the good stuff in a moment.)

Disturbing Animal Content

I genuinely admire my friends who advocate for animal rights, whether it involves livestock, pets, or wildlife. Their causes are noble, but when I’m taking a quick break from work, I don’t want to be bombarded by images of abused and starving animals. I promise I’ll read the accompanying text if you just spare me the visuals.

Creepy Insects

Bugs terrify me! I don’t need close-ups of them invading my feed. Bees are an exception; while I’m scared to death of them in real life, they’re intriguing enough to observe from behind my screen.

Spiders, Really?

What’s with all the spider content? I never clicked that infamous video of a giant spider being struck by a broom, yet somehow it played in my feed, leaving me horrified. Now, every other post seems to feature spiders raining down from the sky in Australia—enough already!

Adam Sandler Posts

I just can’t with Adam Sandler. When I see a post asking, “What’s your favorite Adam Sandler movie?” my response is definitely not family-friendly.

Heartbreaking Stories About Children

As a parent, it’s tough to digest stories about real-life atrocities against kids. I’d much prefer to remain blissfully unaware.

Repetitive Content

When the infamous dress debate surfaced, it felt like I saw it every third post. Wouldn’t it be great if we could limit repeated content or group similar posts together, much like Google does with search results? I didn’t care about that dress the first time, and I certainly didn’t care after the fifteenth view.

The Kardashians

Honestly, is there a filter for this?

Posts That Make Me Feel Inadequate

I’ve ranted about this before—please stop reminding me of all the ways I’m parenting wrong. It’s just plain disheartening.

Mombods and Dadbods

Can we please move on?

Kale Snacks

Let’s be real: kale is not delicious. Someday, the world will unite in this realization.

Now, for the lighter side!

Here are the posts I always look forward to seeing in my feed:

Adorable Animal Photos and Videos

Whether they’re wild, domestic, or livestock, I can’t get enough of cute animal content.

Beautiful, Mouthwatering Food

Yes, I’m that person who never tires of seeing drool-worthy food pictures.

Heartwarming Stories

I love uplifting tales, like cops paying for someone’s groceries instead of arresting them or professors comforting students’ babies during class. There were so many incredible stories coming out of Baltimore amidst the chaos, and I wish they received just as much attention.

Bizarre Criminals Getting Caught

Like the guy who got arrested after “liking” his own wanted poster on Facebook—classic!

In summary, while Facebook can be a minefield of undesirable content, there are still plenty of delightful posts that brighten my day. Let’s hope for more filters and less of the cringe-worthy stuff!
