Episode 2: Bridal Photoshoots as First Dates?

As we dive into the second episode, the show kicks off with Dr. James Harrison asking the women about their initial thoughts on Marcus. I can’t help but wish one of them would exclaim, “I totally understand why he’s single,” but of course, that doesn’t happen because where’s the fun in reality TV?

This week, the date lineup includes three outings: two group dates and one exclusive date. Dr. Harrison informs the contestants, “With 22 of you here, it’s simply not feasible for everyone to have individual time with Marcus.” Say what? Does Dr. Harrison understand what “group” means? How could it possibly be “not feasible” to arrange enough dates? Are there more contestants than usual? Was the transport service out of limos? I’m seriously confused.

He leaves the women in a state of frenzy, advising them to “make the most of their time” when they finally get it. The camera captures the mounting tension, with everyone looking increasingly determined to seize their moment with Marcus. One contestant, Sophia, starts to sweat and yells, “My dad promised I’d get a date!” Then she proceeds to nibble on the ear of the girl next to her. Yikes. Just kidding. But honestly, I could make this show so much more thrilling.

The date card arrives, sending the women into a panic. The first name called is Sophia’s, and we collectively hold our breath. The card reads, “Always a bridesmaid…” which could either reference Marcus’s unfortunate romantic history or hint that the chosen women are the B team. Who knows?

Sophia chimes in, “I’ve never been a bridesmaid. I’m just destined to be a bride.” Ha! No, sweetheart. You probably have no friends because you’re unbearable.

They all pile into convertibles, feigning surprise that they’re “actually going on a date with Marcus today!” Have they not watched this show before? It’s all about dates!

As the women arrive at the group date, we finally see Marcus. “I feel so fortunate to have met 30 incredible women,” he says. Seriously, why am I still watching this show? As the ladies gather, he hugs each one of them. ABC doesn’t air every hug, but they should. He cracks a joke about how awkward group dates can be since he’s “been on quite a few.” We get it, Marcus. You practically reside at the mansion.

But what’s even stranger is the upcoming photoshoot. The women are presented with a selection of bridal gowns to wear. “This date is designed to break the ice,” Marcus states. Yeah, because nothing screams relaxation like donning a wedding dress on a first date. There’s a twist, though — not all gowns are available, so some women have to don bridesmaid attire. Surprise! The eccentric photographer will determine who “wins” based on their chemistry.

Sophia, ever the attention-seeker, brags about being the first to kiss him and the first name drawn from the date card. We all silently wish for her to be sent home. “I am definitely the hottest bride,” she declares, flaunting a gown with a bikini top. Meanwhile, another contestant, Jenna, emerges in an even more daring outfit, sending Sophia into a tizzy. Our hearts are warmed by the drama.

Next comes a series of tedious photoshoots, and the photographer styles Marcus like he belongs in a retro band — comedic, yet cringeworthy.

Back at the mansion, the remaining women speculate that Sophia will receive the first rose due to her early kiss with Marcus. Meanwhile, Liz sits back with a smirk, clearly itching to shout, “I kissed him first! At Jessica’s wedding! And yes, we got intimate!” But she stays quiet.

The photoshoot resumes, and Sophia goes overboard, taking off her top and making Marcus cover her with his hands. It’s awkward and embarrassing, yet she somehow wins the day — likely because the photographer misinterpreted her antics. The other women glare at her in jealousy.

Later, Danielle M. receives the first one-on-one date. Liz expresses her excitement while her gaze implies she wants to say, “I want to stab her!” Now, back to the group date where Sophia monopolizes Marcus’s time. She “steals” him first and interrupts another woman’s conversation, then casually mentions, “I think my nipple was out the entire time.” Wow, what a gem. The tension among the ladies is palpable, and it’s clear they’d love to see her disappear.

Sophia interrupts yet again, and to our astonishment, Marcus seems to enjoy it. Just when we think it can’t get worse, she refers to herself in the third person. Ugh. She’s like a ticking time bomb — the female version of Chad from previous seasons. When it’s time for the rose ceremony, Marcus inexplicably gives the rose to Sophia. Seriously? I’m turning off my TV and swearing off the show forever.

Just kidding. I can’t quit this madness. But really, Marcus?

The one-on-one date with Danielle is painfully dull. Liz, unable to contain herself, reveals to Kristin that she slept with Marcus. Back to Danielle, who shares a heart-wrenching story about her late fiancé. Marcus advises her to “recapture the feelings” she had for her ex in future romances — the most morbid advice imaginable.

For the second group date, Marcus takes the women to the Museum of Broken Relationships — because why not dwell on past heartaches? In a glass case, they spot a dead rose alongside the engagement ring Marcus once chose for Kaitlin. Seriously, Marcus, let it go! The date involves staged arguments where the women pretend to break up with him. It’s absurd, and I won’t waste time recapping that nonsense.

Liz, on the sidelines, is in tears because she can’t wrap her head around how odd it is for someone who had a one-night stand and refused to share her number to suddenly appear on national television vying for the guy. She makes her “imaginary breakup” about their actual history, airing their dirty laundry in front of the others. Awkward. Marcus is visibly uncomfortable.

After discovering Liz confided in Kristin about their past, Marcus decides he needs to confront her. He suspects she’s merely seeking fame. “The more I talk to Liz, the less she makes sense,” he admits. Ever heard of the saying, “We dislike in others what we see in ourselves?” It perfectly fits here.

Attempting to be honest, Liz explains her feelings, but it only seems to push Marcus further away. “I don’t think we have a future,” he declares, leaving Liz in shock. Her glare could cut glass. She agrees to the walk of shame to the car. Why do they always accept that? If I were sent home, I’d be like, “Peace out, buddy. Don’t walk me out. Forget my name!”

Marcus returns to the group, feeling the need to share his history with Liz. The women react as if they’ve never heard of two adults getting drunk and hooking up at a wedding. Next week promises more tears, chaos, and confusion as the ladies grapple with Marcus and Liz’s past. It looks like Sophia might have a meltdown, and I can’t wait to see it unfold.
