Today I Rocked a Bikini

Would anyone notice the stretch marks that weave like rivers across my thighs? Those stubborn white lines that tell the story of my body’s transformation over the years—where once there were muscles from high school track, there are now the remnants of my biweekly gym routine.

And what about the cellulite that cozies up between my thighs, lurking just beneath the edge of my bikini bottom? Would anyone see my not-so-toned tummy, the upper abs that have seen better days, or my C-section scar that tells the tale of motherhood? Would they judge my body for the journey it has taken?

Would they comment on my sun-kissed, yet barely tanned skin? The freckled spots that haven’t seen sunlight in ages? Would my friends post about the need for sunscreen in the comments, racking up likes?

And what of my tattoos—seven in total—etched across my ribs and back? Would some see them as a mark of poor judgment, questioning my worth as a mother?

Would they recognize the self-conscious woman I sometimes see in the mirror? The mom who once sprinted a six-minute mile and easily cranked out crunches? Or would they see the resilient mama bear ready to protect her cubs? Would they see a confident woman—one who embraces every inch of her skin, including the stretch marks, scars, and tattoos?

So, what did my friends really notice? Today, I donned a bikini at the beach and shared a snapshot on social media. Nobody remarked on the stretch marks or cellulite. No one mentioned my tattoos or sunburn. Instead, they commented on the radiant smiles of my kids, the joy captured in our family photos, and the fun we shared under the Florida sun. That fills me with pride!

I am immensely proud of my body. It’s the vessel that nurtured my children and has bravely weathered nearly 30 years of sports, scars, and life’s ups and downs. This body has rebounded from pregnancies, surgeries, sleepless nights, and toddler tantrums. I might not be a tiger, but I’ve certainly earned every stripe and stretch mark along the way. And honestly, there’s nothing more beautiful than that!
