In a surprising turn of events, Lindsay Lohan, who still has nearly 116 hours of community service left to fulfill from a reckless driving incident back in 2012, has been cleared to volunteer at a Brooklyn preschool. Because, of course, parents love the idea of having their little ones around someone with a history like that! While she won’t be behind the wheel, one would think that a reckless driving charge would raise a few eyebrows during volunteer screenings.
To add to the oddity, a few of Lohan’s devoted fans have set up camp outside the preschool, likely hoping for a glimpse of her—and I’m sure the paparazzi won’t be far behind, assuming they can get a tip-off about her attendance. Lohan does have a knack for being a no-show, after all. She has until May 28 to complete her community service or face jail time. Despite having three years to fulfill this obligation, it seems life keeps throwing curveballs her way.
A staff member at the preschool noted that Lohan has volunteered there before, and supposedly, it went well. “She was friendly and had freckles,” recalled one child. “She sang songs and we did all the dance moves.” I can totally see that. I admit I still have a soft spot for Lindsay. Stardom seemed to take a toll on her, but she has always had a natural talent for acting. It wasn’t just her roles in Mean Girls and The Parent Trap; I remember her first appearance on Another World, where she delivered a standout performance at only 10 years old.
So, perhaps she will bring some fun to the kids. Her volunteering is said to be limited to administrative tasks and arts and crafts. But it raises a valid question: should working at a preschool really be part of a punishment? Parents don’t get to handpick their volunteers, but I think they should have a say if someone like Lindsay Lohan is involved with their toddlers. And let’s be honest, is this really the best choice for community service? Many parent volunteers undergo background checks and fingerprinting—shouldn’t the same standard apply to those fulfilling court-mandated service?
But hey, at least it’s not Charlie Sheen taking on this role!
