Napping Adventures: Kids in the Most Unexpected Places

As a new mom, I was determined to establish a strict naptime routine for my toddler. However, everything changed when my second child arrived. The daily struggle to get my two-year-old to nap in his bed became overwhelming, causing unnecessary tension. I quickly realized that it was easier to let my little one nap wherever he fell asleep. To my surprise, this turned out to be just about everywhere!

Now, as a proud advocate of what I like to call the “natural napping” movement, I’ve embraced the fact that my boys can choose their own snooze spots. They nap soundly and wake up refreshed, and honestly, what’s a little drool on the couch cushion or some crumbs on their cheeks? A well-rested child is a happy child, and that makes for one content mom.

Cozy Nap Locations

Kids have an incredible talent for finding the coziest nap locations. Take, for example, the warm wooden deck on a sunny summer day. It’s like having a mini sauna right in your backyard! I like to refer to this scene as “Deck Bed Bliss.”

Sometimes, a post-meal nap is essential. Whether it’s catching some Z’s after lunch or just a quick harmonica practice session, every little bit counts. And for those little athletes, a quick power nap can be the perfect way to recharge between games or skateboarding sessions.

Even amidst the hustle and bustle of gardening, fresh air can be a fantastic lullaby, lulling little ones into a peaceful slumber. And let’s not forget the energy drain that comes with shopping. Why wait until you get home to take a break? A quick snooze in the car is always an option!

Of course, there are plenty of comfy spots available for nap time too. Just make sure your little one picks the right side of the pillow for a cozy catnap—or better yet, borrow that pillow from the family dog!

When it all gets to be too much, there’s nothing wrong with going undercover (or under a blanket) for a little privacy while napping.
