When my parenting manual starts to resemble the ramblings of a crazed individual scrawled on a restroom wall, I rely on my girlfriends for sanity. Thankfully, I’ve had a solid crew of ladies by my side for years who can help me navigate this wild journey. Yet, looking back, it’s almost as if we’ve transformed into an entirely different species since becoming moms. Here are some humorous ways friendships shift once you enter the world of motherhood:

1. Making New Friends:

Then: “OMG! We’re in the same class! You’re amazing; let’s hang out!”

Now: “Oh, I see those stains on your pants—looks like a toddler’s been living in your house! Same here! Want to come over and watch them duke it out over measuring cups?”

2. Exercising Together:

Then: Morning coffee followed by stretching in cute spandex, with energy to conquer yoga classes and gossip about future weddings.

Now: Dragging myself out of bed before dawn, still in my PJs, trying to avoid my daughter’s morning “potty drama.” Noticing my running shoes have holes but deciding they can wait. When my friend arrives, we don’t even chat; we just gasp for air while jogging!

3. Talking on the Phone:

Then: Endless, uninterrupted hours of conversation—though I can’t recall the topics.

Now: Still hours of chatting, but I’m also juggling laundry, washing dishes, and ensuring the kids aren’t eating something hazardous. Multitasking at its finest!

4. Girls’ Night:

Then: Drinks, dancing, and late-night cab rides in cute outfits.

Now: Sipping “fancier” drinks and simply enjoying the luxury of sitting with other women who get it. We don’t even need to talk; a knowing look says it all. I see you, girl. We’ve both been there.

5. Couple’s Night:

Then: Wild nights dancing, making S’mores, and skinny-dipping.

Now: Perfecting the art of ignoring our little ones while attempting to hold an adult conversation. The kids, meanwhile, are busy creating chaos with glitter and egg cartons—fun times! The food and wine, however, are way better now.

6. “Play” Dates:

Then: Spa days, lunch, and pampering in soft robes.

Now: Listening to my friend’s birth stories while trying to keep our toddlers from reenacting a WWE match. It’s a juggling act, but we manage to laugh through it all.

7. Weekend Getaways:

Then: Poolside lounging in bikinis with fruity cocktails and late nights.

Now: Huh? What was that again?
