Embracing the “Never Had a Baby Body” Concept

It’s time to introduce a new term into our lexicon: “Never Had a Baby Body.” This term encapsulates everything from a noun to an adjective, and it reflects a familiar image in our minds: bodies that resemble a teenage boy more than those of mothers. Sound familiar?

My inspiration came from an encounter with one of my partner’s colleagues, a woman who arrived at my home looking fabulous in a chic outfit, flaunting her Never Had a Baby Body. Meanwhile, I was still adjusting to life with a newborn—exhausted, nursing, and sporting a maternity top that was my only clean option at the time. Can you picture it?

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon a photo from my honeymoon. I did a double-take, wondering who the stunning woman in the bikini with my husband was, only to realize it was my own Never Had a Baby Body from years past. Back then, I was effortlessly fit, but I don’t hold that version of myself in high regard anymore. It seemed too easy.

Now, when I see mothers rocking amazing figures, I can’t help but admire their dedication. Achieving that look takes serious commitment and resources, including personal chefs and trainers. Without those luxuries, I know I may never reclaim my Never Had a Baby Body.

But you know what? I’m perfectly fine with that. I have four beautiful children who bring me joy beyond measure and a wonderful partner who loves me just as I am. That’s worth more than any fleeting ideal of a Never Had a Baby Body.
