Empowered Women Get Things Done

I have a deep admiration for empowered women: the ambitious, spirited, intelligent, and driven women who refuse to be sidelined. There’s a common misconception that strong women are only found in high-powered careers, shattering glass ceilings while others lounge at home. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Strong women are everywhere you look. I’ve often found myself pausing to watch a woman in a parking lot, or maybe in a waiting area, taking charge of her situation—be it managing her child’s behavior or deciding she’s had enough and choosing to leave. They know when it’s time to cut their losses.

Strong women look men straight in the eye when they attempt to belittle them for being female. If someone approaches them with a disrespectful “Hey, baby,” they respond with a firm “BACK UP.” I see these incredible women at the gas station, the pharmacy, and even at the gym, showcasing strength in countless forms—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Fear may grip them momentarily, but they recognize it and move forward. Strong women confront their fears head-on, pushing through discomfort because they understand that avoiding challenges can lead to stagnation.

They juggle side hustles while simultaneously raising their children, dropping them off at daycare before diving into their work. They manage their tasks quietly and assertively, whether it’s photocopying or making their voices heard in board meetings. Some may sew, while others might not.

Single mothers often bear the weight of exhaustion, yet they persist because they have to. Strong women carry immense burdens, but those burdens don’t define them. Many of us are unaware of their struggles as they choose not to wallow in self-pity but to carry on in spite of their challenges.

These women freely offer their time, energy, and love. They are the unsung heroes of families—taming sweaty hair, bandaging scrapes, scrubbing burnt eggs off pans, and folding laundry, often without any recognition. Strong women form the backbone of society; without them, there simply wouldn’t be a society.

What distinguishes strong women from the rest is their remarkable ability to persevere when others would throw in the towel. It’s their depth of character and sheer determination that keeps them moving forward. Whether their responsibilities are big or small, they excel at whatever they take on. These women make the best friends because they know their worth and don’t entertain nonsense.

I once knew a woman named Lisa who faced an unimaginable situation. One early morning, while leaving a store, she was attacked in the parking lot by a man who tried to snatch her purse. Lisa didn’t hesitate; she removed one of her high heels and defended herself fiercely, holding him down until help arrived. When she eventually returned to work, every woman in the office erupted in applause. That’s strength.

At this point in my life, I want to surround myself with women who uplift and inspire me, who challenge me to reach for more. Life can be tough for women, and we must tackle our battles bravely, heads held high and shoulders back—ideally, with a supportive friend by our side to lift us when we feel weary. Together, we will conquer anything.
