Growing up with a brother can be quite the adventure. Despite my son being generally sweet and kind-hearted, he’s still a boy, which means he often engages in some pretty gross antics. And his little sister? She’s absolutely captivated by his every move. To her, he’s a superhero—able to ride bikes, ski, and burp the alphabet. Seriously, what more could a three-year-old want?
Here are some of the amusing things you might find girls with brothers doing:
- Take a tumble and shout, “Oh! My nuts!”
- Divide everyone they meet into two categories: those with Peanuts and those with Giants. Thankfully, her mispronunciation saves us some serious embarrassment at the grocery store!
- Lounge around in her underwear all day, just like her brother, possibly while burping and scratching.
- Perfect the art of mimicking a zombie, complete with eye-rolling and insistent moans for brains.
- Be well-versed in pop culture, knowing all about zombies, vampires, and even The Legends of Chima (which I still don’t fully understand).
- Pee wherever they please and then freak out because they can’t do it standing up.
- Skip playing with dolls to sneakily hide her brother’s prized Star Wars Lego pieces and climb on him while he’s trying to build in Minecraft.
- Seek out the highest slide, the tallest rock, and the steepest hill to launch herself from. Honestly, I’d pay good money for a tutu that doubles as a parachute.
- Surprise and defeat any friends who aren’t blessed with older brothers during friendly wrestling matches.
- Let out farts like a sailor while wearing adorable Hello Kitty underwear, followed by maniacal laughter.
- Stand her ground and voice her opinions on a range of topics, which keeps me busy all day negotiating matters like wearing pants and not eating boogers.
- Create “art” in about as much time as it takes me to notice silence and panic.
- Boogers—while I’m not a fan, apparently they are a delicacy in her world.
- Transform fairy wings into superhero capes, wands into swords, and crowns into worm catchers.
- Burst into tears when she learns she will never, ever have a penis.
