11 Things I’m Grateful For This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving at our home is a cherished tradition. Before diving into the feast, we gather around to share what we’re thankful for. While the usual suspects—good health, family, and freedom—always make an appearance, I’d like to highlight 11 more unique things that fill me with gratitude.

  1. I’m grateful for kids who sleep in until at least 8 a.m. Even better are those who rise, head straight to the living room, turn on the Thanksgiving parade, pour themselves some chocolate milk, and leave me blissfully undisturbed until 9. What a gift!

  2. I’m thankful that our family opts out of any Turkey Trot or 5k on Thanksgiving. While I admire those who choose to run, I prefer to stay cozy on the couch, dreaming of turkey.

  3. Let’s not forget about wine—specifically, the large bottles. They make everything better.

  4. I’m thankful for family members who entertain the kids while I’m busy in the kitchen. Whether they’re playing football, video games, or board games, as long as my children are occupied while I wrestle a giant turkey, they’re my heroes.

  5. I’m grateful for a holiday where my kids manage to keep their squabbles to a minimum (most of the time!).

  6. In the same vein, I appreciate that the adults also manage to keep the peace (most of the time!).

  7. I cherish any day I can avoid wearing a bathing suit, especially when indulging in copious amounts of food. Fourth of July? Not a chance!

  8. Did I mention the wine?

  9. I’m thankful for those amazing individuals who swoop in after dinner to clear away every plate and glass, transforming my kitchen into a clean space. They’re like cleanup ninjas, and I often feel like twirling them in gratitude.

  10. I’m grateful that we only host Thanksgiving and no other holidays at our place. One big event is just right for me!

  11. And of course, I’m thankful for leftovers, the gift that keeps on giving.
