“What a bold woman.”
With those four words, a movement has ignited. A movement that had us belting out classic tunes, sporting our own “bold woman” tees, and anxiously checking our mailboxes for our ballots. A movement that’s likely to redefine the dictionary in the future.
The term “bold” now signifies being fearless, resilient, and someone who demands attention. It reflects a woman who is achieving so much that her adversaries resort to name-calling out of sheer frustration. It signifies that women, all bold women, will no longer stand for being silenced, bullied, or objectified.
Ladies, we are reclaiming boldness.
It’s ours, got it? It’s ours along with our bodies, our thoughts, and our futures. It’s ours along with our votes.
Here are the traits of a “Bold Woman” as defined by the spirit of 2023:
- We’re intelligent. We understand what we stand for and why. We recognize that “feminist” is not a derogatory term. It simply means we believe in equal rights for women.
- We won’t be pushed around. No more taking nonsense from anyone—be it our kids, random catcallers, or those who think their fame gives them a free pass.
- We speak our truth. If we witness racism, sexism, xenophobia, or just plain arrogance, we’ll call it out without hesitation.
- We fight for our beliefs. Today. Tomorrow. Every day.
- No one can obstruct us.
- Bullies fuel us. Instead of intimidating us, they motivate us to act so our children, friends, and neighbors feel safe.
- We know girls run the world. Your mom is a woman. She brought you into this world. Think about it.
- We care deeply. We want to create a world for our children where love and acceptance prevail over fear and selfishness.
- We’re incredibly strong. Mentally, physically, and emotionally.
- We rise above. As Michelle Obama so wisely said.
- We embrace the chaos. Life is messy—our kids, our homes, our jobs—yet we’ve survived worse.
- We have long memories. We remember trailblazers like Clara and the suffragettes. We won’t forget the struggles women faced for the right to vote.
- Our voices carry weight. And our votes resonate even louder.
- Our bodies belong to us. They are not up for debate by anyone—famous folks, strangers, or the government. We decide what happens to them. Thank you very much.
- We make things happen. The 19th Amendment has existed since 1920, and it has taken nearly a century for a woman to be on the brink of the highest office in our nation. You can’t hold us back now.
So if you resonate with being a “bold woman,” go vote! This is our moment to amplify our voices. This is the year we take control of our bodies and reproductive rights. This is the year we give a strong nod to the patriarchy. This is the year we crown our next female leader.
