You never quite know what will pop out of a child’s mouth. Sometimes, I find myself shaking my head, while other times I’m left wondering where they get these ideas. There are countless phrases that my kids casually throw around that I never would—nor could—have said during my own childhood. Here are just a few:
1. “Can we go to Starbucks?”
I had no idea what Starbucks was until I hit my teenage years. Even then, it felt like a foreign land filled with intimidating words like “Venti” and “Frappuccino.” I steered clear until my 20s! My kids, on the other hand, have known about Starbucks since they were born. And those cake pops? They’re the perfect bribe when I need a quick win.
2. “Can I use your phone?”
Our playtime was spent outdoors. Sure, my kids love the outdoors too, but let’s be honest—technology has taken over. They’ve got their own devices! Forget about On Demand! We didn’t even have cable! Just rabbit ears wrapped in tin foil, and if we were fortunate, our shows came in clear. Sometimes, you had to hold those bunny ears while hopping on one foot and holding your breath. A remote? Ha! You had to walk up to the TV to change the channel or adjust the volume.
