With just two weeks left until school breaks for summer, I can hardly believe it. I recently caved and got my kids some fidget spinners, and let me tell you, the incessant whirring is already driving me up the wall. It seems fitting to take a moment out of this chaotic time to acknowledge the amazing teachers who have endured not only fidget spinners but so much more throughout the school year. As summer approaches, our children will soon be with us full-time, and those teachers deserve a well-earned break — free from witnessing any more dabbing, bottle-flipping, or slime-making antics.
They’ve put up with our little ones day in and day out, and they absolutely deserve a glass of wine or a lifetime supply of chocolate for their efforts. As summer rolls in, it really hits home how much we rely on these educators. While they’re not babysitters, they are our unsung heroes, imparting essential knowledge and skills that shape our kids’ futures.
This year, it feels like summer caught me off guard, but I’m sure it hasn’t for the teachers. After a long year of managing kids who sometimes don’t listen or stay focused, they must be ready for a break. Teachers often serve as a second parent; they guide students through everything from basic manners to life skills, all while maintaining their patience through countless distractions.
As I prepare for a summer filled with sibling squabbles and endless questions, I can’t help but reflect on the immense patience our teachers show every day. I’m eager to shower them with gratitude, wishing I could offer hugs and gifts to show my appreciation. I wonder how they do it — how they handle the constant noise and chaos while still managing to teach and inspire.
With summer break on the horizon, I’m bracing myself for the whirlwind of activity and arguments that will fill my home. I’ll be the one reminding my kids to clean up their messes, just like their teachers do. I’ll be the one navigating the challenges of keeping them entertained and engaged, all while trying to uphold some semblance of rules and structure.
During these summer months, I will think fondly of my children’s teachers as I attempt to orchestrate educational activities that won’t end in tears (usually mine). It’s a daunting task, and I can’t help but admire the incredible work they do. They manage to handle classrooms full of children with grace, something I’m sure I won’t achieve as I juggle my own three.
As I look ahead to the summer and the challenges it brings, I’ll make a mental note to take a moment for our teachers. Their hard work and dedication go largely unrecognized, and it’s time we acknowledge that they are, indeed, saints in the world of education.
By the time the school year resumes, I’ll be the one shouting, “Thank you, teachers!” as I pull away from the school parking lot, grateful for the sanity they’ve provided throughout the year. Teachers, you truly complete the puzzle of our children’s growth, and I can’t thank you enough.
