For 39 weeks, you have been a part of me, and I’ve cherished every minute of nurturing both you and myself. Feeling your gentle flutters turning into strong kicks has been nothing short of exhilarating. My amazement has transformed into wonder and then to pride: I am about to welcome a strong and spirited daughter into this world! While I will miss the comfort of knowing you are safe within me, I eagerly await the moment we finally meet. From that instant and with each breath you take, you will become more you—more responsible for your happiness, your destiny, and your successes or failures. I will always be here, doing everything in my power to give you a solid foundation, to teach you all I can, and to be the best example possible. However, the key lesson I want to impart is this: you hold the power to create your own happiness, a power that no one can diminish or take away.
I don’t share this to imply I won’t be the best mother I can be—I promise I will. I express this because I wish I had understood the significance of my own power much earlier. Life has its challenges, and while I will strive to protect you, I cannot shield you from every hardship. It’s crucial to embrace the understanding that you can choose how you respond to adversity, no matter how big or small. You will discover that strength often comes from within, a strength you’ll be able to rely on throughout your life.
However, let’s not fixate on the negatives. Life tends to reflect what we seek, so let’s focus on love, light, beauty, and hope. I can’t wait to hold you in my arms. I also look forward to watching your dad embrace you. He’s a wonderful man—a fact you’ve already sensed through his warm voice and the way he holds us close. He is excited to meet you, just as I am.
