Hillary Clinton’s Election Night Celebration Venue Has Us All Cheering

Hillary Clinton’s campaign has revealed the location of her election night bash, and the symbolism of it has us all bursting with “hell-yeah, nasty woman” pride. Invitations sent out to Capitol Hill on Wednesday announced that Hillary, her family, and her supporters will gather on the night she’s expected to become the 45th president of the United States beneath—wait for it—an actual glass ceiling.

While specifics of the event remain under wraps, we know that her victory celebration will take place at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. Built in 1986 and predominantly made of glass, it’s the perfect spot to commemorate a woman on the cusp of breaking the ultimate glass ceiling: becoming the first female president of the United States. “Madam President” has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Kudos to her team for creating an epic photo opportunity.

To add a delicious twist to this narrative: During the planning of the convention center, Donald Trump tried to insert his name into the project, offering to let the city use his name for a mere $833,000. New York City politely declined, opting instead to honor a deceased senator. LOL forever, Donald. Nice try, though!

Back in 2008, when Hillary lost the Democratic primary to Barack Obama, she remarked, “Although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it’s got about 18 million cracks in it and the light is shining through like never before.” She expressed hope that her path to the presidency would be smoother the next time around. I remember hoping for that next chance, envisioning my daughter and I witnessing a woman ascend to the highest office in the land.

Who would’ve guessed her next run for the presidency would face her against a racist, misogynistic blowhard? Talk about a plot twist! It’s frustrating enough that we’ve waited this long for a female president, but Trump’s chauvinistic antics have made this campaign particularly bitter for countless women. We’ve watched him degrade women and deny his behaviors and policies, not to mention his infamous tape admitting to sexual assault. For many, Hillary’s victory is about much more than just a woman stepping into the presidency; it’s about standing up to a man who has mistreated women his entire life. Hillary’s triumph would be a resounding “F you” to misogyny and gender inequality.

And that’s why this glass ceiling venue is so fitting. On election night, surrounded by supporters and millions watching live, Hillary will literally and figuratively do what has been a long time coming: break through that ceiling that many of us have longed to see shattered. She will become our first female POTUS, and women across the nation will revel in the sparkling glass remnants raining down around us. Hillary’s win will empower our daughters to believe they can achieve anything, transforming “you can be president someday” from a mere phrase into a tangible dream.

At political victory parties, it’s customary to shower the candidate with balloons upon their declaration of victory. Even Bill Clinton enjoyed playing with the balloons at the DNC after the convention. But guess what? No balloons needed this year, folks. Hillary has the diamond confetti shower all set for November 8.
