Public displays of odd behavior. Outrageous requests. Endless chatter. Am I talking about a preschooler or a celebrity? It’s a trick question because both share these traits. I’ve affectionately dubbed my own preschooler “Mini K” to add her to the ranks of the famous. After all, being in preschool may as well be a training ground for future stardom.
Here are 7 ways my daughter mirrors a member of the celebrity elite.
1. Look at Me!
My daughter craves the spotlight, demanding our attention for even the most mundane activities. “Look at me!” (She’s going down the slide for the hundredth time.) “Watch me, Mommy!” (She’s spinning around until she tumbles over.) “See what I did!” (She’s just used the potty.) Each leap from the coffee table to the couch cushion requires my enthusiastic applause. Some moments leave me holding my breath as she contemplates a daring jump from the windowsill. More often than not, her athletic skills impress me—definitely a trait from her dad!
2. All About Me
To my little one, she is the center of the universe. She has an affinity for mirrors and will often disregard a lovingly prepared meal in favor of waiting for “something good.”
3. Too Much Information
With an incredible knack for oversharing, my preschooler provides updates ranging from “I’m gassy” to long-winded stories that seem to have no end. You can often find her hopping from foot to foot announcing, “Pee-pee, pee-pee!” (A trait she gets from me.)
4. Drama Queen
If there’s even a hint of drama, my daughter will ensure everyone knows about it. A minor scrape? Prepare for the full array of Band-Aids. Accidentally hurt her feelings? You’ll hear about it for days unless I can convince her to let it go.
5. Fickle Preferences
Her commitment to shows is as stable as a game of musical chairs. “Let’s watch Dora!” “No, Paw Patrol!” “Wait, I want to see that episode of Dora!” Her whims change faster than a reality TV plot twist.
6. Attention-Seeking with Boundaries
She loves to be the center of attention but on her terms. One moment she’s all about the limelight, the next she’s requesting some “me time.”
7. Public Mischief
Yes, my little one has perfected the art of public urination—though thankfully, she’s now potty trained. I suppose we can thank the celebrity world for showcasing their own unique antics, like that infamous moment when a certain celebrity relieved himself in a less-than-appropriate location.
In conclusion, whether it’s a preschooler or a celebrity, both are undeniably attention-seeking, quirky, and oddly captivating. As they navigate their worlds, I realize I’ll never quite keep up!
