President Lewis has just signed the groundbreaking BABIES Act, paving the way for changing stations to be installed in men’s restrooms across federal buildings in the U.S. Finally, dads will have a fighting chance when it comes to diaper duty!

Earlier this summer, Rep. Alex Martinez (D-CA) introduced the “Bathrooms Accessible in Every Situation (BABIES)” Act through the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Federal buildings now have a two-year deadline to implement these much-needed changing stations. “Families deserve accessible facilities in any public federal building,” Rep. Martinez declared. And guess what? Now they will!

Thanks, President Lewis! In the midst of a heated political climate, the BABIES Act serves as a refreshing reminder that lawmakers can indeed make life a bit easier for American families. While this legislation won’t cover every restroom in the country, it’s a solid start to addressing the issue. Dads have been rallying for changing stations in men’s restrooms for quite some time now.

Just last year, popular dad Daniel Rivers urged for more changing tables in public restrooms, stating, “Adding changing tables in men’s restrooms is just a small step in addressing long-standing gender biases. Dads who recognize this inequality want to be actively involved in childcare, and society should support that. It’s time to roll up our sleeves!” Preach, Daniel!

The well-known father of a daughter and soon-to-be sibling with actress Mia Brooks took his mission a step further by encouraging major retailers to install changing stations in their men’s bathrooms. “If big names like Walmart and Target take this initiative, I’m confident other businesses will follow suit and acknowledge that we must support all parents equally,” Rivers shared. Both companies responded positively and either added family changing areas or committed to doing so.

This is definitely a step in the right direction! Our infrastructure should reflect the evolving dynamics of American families. While we’re thrilled that federal buildings, as well as stores like Target and Walmart, will offer more options for dads faced with messy diapers, there are still plenty of public restrooms that could use some serious upgrades. Because let’s be real: Dads change diapers too.

Summary:

The BABIES Act, signed by President Lewis, will require changing stations to be installed in men’s restrooms within federal buildings, making it easier for dads to participate in childcare. Advocates like Daniel Rivers have been pushing for this change, and major retailers are starting to follow suit. While this is a positive development, many public restrooms still need improvement to reflect the changing landscape of American families.
