Parents, we did it! Summer has finally bid us farewell, and it’s time to send the kids back to school. If our expressions could talk, they’d likely echo the sentiments of teachers during the final weeks of the school year — we’ve witnessed some things that may haunt us forever. It’s been a long few months, to say the least.
It’s no surprise that the bus driver has ascended to hero status in our eyes. Or that we get a bit teary watching that glorious car line at drop-off. We’ve survived another summer, and now it’s time for school again. Naturally, the witty parents of Twitter are fully in tune with the bliss this time of year brings, tweeting with the unrestrained joy of someone who’s finally free after three long months.
1. They’ll figure it out once they become parents, too.
Oh, you’re upset? Too bad for you.
2. Go Pinterest-perfect or go home.
This is the age we live in, parents. Document your excitement with a trendy chalkboard filled with elaborate doodles or simply leave.
3. Bye-bye, kiddos!
Is it wrong to roll out a literal red carpet for the bus driver on the first day? Because if it is, I don’t want to be right.
4. So. Many. Reps.
Sometimes, they’re not as eager to leave as you are to send them off.
5. Right where it belongs.
This may sound harsh to newcomers, but if you’ve been around the school circuit, you know the initial “hey, send us money” paperwork is just the tip of the iceberg. Expect to be hit up for donations at least 47 more times this school year. Brace yourselves!
6. Look away, kids.
I’m basically a walking disaster at the bus stop most mornings, so yes, I’m enthusiastically hopping on this selective amnesia train.
7. Oops.
Wait… you haven’t kept a special dry-erase calendar all summer long, eagerly counting down the days until school starts again? Oh, alright then. Maybe we can’t be friends.
8. Not a bad beginning.
After a summer filled with wild kids staying up until the crack of dawn, it’s a miracle if they even make it to the first day of school by lunchtime. Two hours late is now considered on time.
9. #Goals
Please, dear school. It’s been five years. We’ve given all we can. Now it’s your turn!
10. Rookie mistake.
My kids devoured an entire bulk pack of mini muffins meant for school lunches in less than half a day. The label means absolutely nothing to them. You’ll need to invest in a special snack safe; there’s no other way.
11. It must be celebrated.
Reunited and it feels so good!
12. Because, of course.
They spent the summer training for a career in farming, sleeping like half-drunk college kids the week before school starts. And thus, life goes on.
13. We are so ready.
