I have an outrageous daydream. The lights are dimmed, the sheets are tousled, and my partner gently guides me onto the bed. “Shhh…” he murmurs, planting a soft kiss on my lips. Leaning in closer, he whispers, “I’ll handle the kids.” He pulls the covers snugly around me, turns off the lights, and then… he quietly exits the room, giving me the precious gift of sleep. Honestly, I’ve never found him more attractive, and my love for him has never been deeper.

Nowadays, my daydreams have shifted from steamy escapades to much simpler, yet somehow more elusive desires. Since diving headfirst into the world of motherhood, most of my aspirations revolve around one thing: sleep.

Below are 25 more wild and whimsical dreams—mom edition:

  1. Kids who sleep in past 6 a.m.
  2. Enjoying a book without pictures.
  3. Engaging in a conversation without referencing myself in the third person.
  4. Getting tucked in at 7:55 p.m. after a soothing bath. (One toddler’s nightmare is another mom’s fantasy.)
  5. Laundry that magically folds itself.
  6. Math homework that is actually understandable.
  7. Chocolate that helps burn fat and calorie-free wine.
  8. Family meals where everyone eats the same thing—and no one complains.
  9. Caillou disappearing from the airwaves.
  10. A minivan that stays clean for longer than 14 minutes.
  11. Using the bathroom with the door closed—and it remains that way.
  12. A girls’ night out.
  13. A cozy girls’ night in. (Pajamas preferred, real pants optional.)
  14. Enjoying time at home—solo.
  15. Having a phone conversation without interruptions from “Mom, he won’t stop licking me!”
  16. Watching a basketball game without being bombarded by awkward commercials about erectile dysfunction.
  17. Nine uninterrupted hours of sleep. Okay, six. Six hours of sleep would be fantastic.
  18. Socks that return from the laundry in pairs.
  19. Fitting into my pre-baby jeans.
  20. Not needing to wear jeans or a bra at all.
  21. Kids who actually listen.
  22. Kids who never whine.
  23. Children who are kind, happy, and confident.
  24. Kids who genuinely love us.
  25. Kids who understand just how much we adore them.

Alright, so the last three might not be too wild and crazy. They could very well be achievable. In fact, they might even be—dare I say—likely. And you know what? Those three attainable dreams make all the other wild and whimsical aspirations worthwhile.
