My feline companion has a strong dislike for my children. Surely, I can’t be the only one in this boat? When I was expecting, I envisioned my cat snuggling with my newborn, purring away in bliss. The fact that she began hissing at my belly around the seven-month mark should’ve clued me into the reality of the situation.
My cat can be quite the diva. I get it — some pets struggle with the arrival of little ones. I just never imagined mine would be among them. Now that my kids are old enough to actively engage and play, she’s become even more resistant. She frequently hisses and has taken to blocking the staircase when they try to come down. Come on, kitty! She’s lucky I adore her.
Today, I stumbled upon a video of a lion at the zoo having an intense stare-down with a young girl. This lion clearly wasn’t having it. It reminded me of every exasperated house cat out there.
Kid: Love me!
Lion: NO.
