I want to take a moment to express how much I cherish our grocery trips together. From the supermarket to the mall, and even the post office, every errand is an opportunity for bonding (especially those delightful visits to the dry cleaners). Each outing is a whirlwind of activity, from unbuckling you to carry you across the parking lot, to juggling a mountain of clothes while searching for my keys with just one free finger. It’s a chaotic but wonderfully fun three minutes in my day.
As I envision more of these shared errands in our future, I thought it might be helpful to compile a few reminders for you. Together, we can transform these outings into memorable adventures.
Shopping Cart Adventures
To start, when we step into the grocery store, please do me a favor and let out a loud cry about the cart I selected. Nothing says “grand entrance” like a little commotion, and it will surely catch the attention of potential new mom friends. The louder, the better!
After a brief moment, feel free to decide that sitting in the front isn’t for you anymore. Climbing onto the back of the cart gives you access to all the produce, and it’s always amusing when young professionals with fancy shoes and designer bags witness your exploration. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see you touch everything with your tiny hands?
Once you get bored of “playing trash man,” please hop back in, but let’s switch it up and ride from the back this time! It’s important to leave your mark on the ground beef. Remember, ten-second rule! And let’s not forget the chips; who wouldn’t want to pay for a bag of crumbs?
Snack Aisle Shenanigans
Tantrums in the snack aisle are highly encouraged. They offer me a perfect chance to practice my negotiation skills, especially when debating whether those colorful gummies are a healthy choice. After all, I need to stay sharp; mom brain isn’t a real thing when you’re around to keep me grounded!
And if you feel a sudden urge to lie down and throw a fit in the aisle? Absolutely! It’s a classic move that can’t be overlooked. Grocery shopping is indeed hard work, and if you realize you’re “STARVING,” we can always make a picnic out of the popcorn you tossed into the cart. Crumbs? No problem! My handbag is like Mary Poppins’ carpet bag, always prepared for a little snacking escapade.
Cart Control
When you decide to take a turn pushing the cart, please feel free to roll it into my heels. The pain is almost comical at this point, and laughter is just what I need during our shopping journey. And while you’re at it, asking me to carry you while I’m pushing the cart will definitely add to the fun. My yoga pants might look deceivingly sporty, but I didn’t make it to the gym today. This is the workout I never knew I needed!
Once we’ve loaded our cart and I’ve precariously stacked the frozen goods on top, please announce that you need to use the restroom. Nothing excites me more than weaving through the aisles, trying to reach the bathroom before it’s too late—turning a mundane grocery trip into a thrilling challenge.
Checkout Chaos
Finally, when we reach the checkout, don’t hesitate to explore the credit card kiosk and press all the buttons to cancel our transaction. I’m certain the people behind us will appreciate the reminder to slow down and cherish these fleeting moments. So take your time! This is the highlight of my day.
Sweet little adventurers, these are but a few suggestions. Feel free to unleash your creativity and make each supermarket visit unique. I look forward to earning that peaceful ten-minute drive home once you’re safely strapped in your seats.
With love,
Mommy
