Prolonged sitting is associated with a myriad of health issues, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, circulatory problems, muscle deterioration, varicose veins, blood clots, a sluggish metabolic rate, various neck and spine conditions, and even premature mortality. I must admit, I did not write this piece while standing at a desk, as Winston Churchill might have. I wasn’t even walking on a treadmill desk; I wrote this hunched over in a poorly designed chair in my home office. I am drawn to vibrant patterns and colors, and I envision my desk area as a space that inspires creativity and lightheartedness, even if I’m stuck in that dreaded chair. I dream of the day I can sit there joyfully, perhaps even spinning around in delight. So far, that dream remains unfulfilled, especially for someone juggling multiple jobs.
