The Thanksgiving Initiative began three years ago with a small group of families. A few mothers bravely shared their difficulty in affording Thanksgiving meals, while a handful of readers stepped up to assist. The goal was not to change the world; rather, it was to positively impact the life of one family at a time. And then, something remarkable occurred.
More families began to voice their challenges, and even more individuals joined in to help, contributing amounts ranging from a dollar to several hundred. This led to over four hundred families enjoying Thanksgiving dinners that they otherwise would have missed, ultimately giving rise to a charitable organization dedicated to this cause.
Every day, we celebrate the diverse perspectives of parents everywhere. Beneath all our differences lies a shared experience: the unconditional love and instinctual desire to care for our children. This fundamental connection is the essence of the Thanksgiving Initiative. To date, more than 4,500 families have benefited from our efforts, with last year alone seeing 2,765 applications fulfilled.
