Bachelor parties are usually associated with wild nights and a lot of revelry. But for a group of friends from Michigan, their weekend getaway took an unexpected turn when a furry visitor appeared at their cabin door. And no, it wasn’t a surprise entertainer. Instead, the guys were cooking breakfast in their Tennessee cabin when they found a lost dog waiting for them.
“She was such a gentle soul; once we earned her trust, she was wagging her tail and clearly thrilled to be around us,” said groom Mark Thompson in a chat with ABC News. Mark noticed the dog looked like she had recently given birth but was in desperate need of care—she was dehydrated, her milk had dried up, and she was clearly hungry. After the group offered her food and water, she started to produce milk again, leading them to believe her puppies were nearby. They noticed her protective stance over a specific area in the woods and decided to investigate. To their surprise, they discovered a makeshift den with adorable pups peeking out.
One of the guys, Jake Miller, recounted, “We placed each puppy in front of her one by one. She nuzzled them and gave us a look that said, ‘It’s all good; I trust you.’” After bonding with the puppies, it was time for a much-needed bath.
The pups were infested with fleas, so the men got creative, crafting makeshift beds for their new friends. They were initially planning to pool their cash for drinks, but as the days went by, their beer fund quickly transformed into a puppy food fund. “By day three, we were all in on the rescue,” Jake stated.
Once the puppies were all cleaned up, they took them and their mother back home, where they were adopted by the group or their families. “I kept one male and named him Scout. All the dogs are thriving,” Jake mentioned. The rescue story has garnered a lot of attention, with many women online expressing their admiration for the guys’ unexpected act of kindness. “Someone even commented that we’re the most datable guys,” Jake laughed. “I haven’t read all the comments yet, but a few of us are still single, so who knows?”
