Remember that peculiar display of “patriotism” at a Trump rally earlier this year? A group of young girls dressed in red, white, and blue singing a song promoting the Republican candidate’s vision for America? It seems that Donald Trump has added them to the ever-growing list of individuals he has let down by neglecting to honor parts of their contractual agreement with his campaign.
Yes, you read that right.
According to recent reports, the USA Freedom Kids dance group is pursuing legal action against Trump for breach of contract. They gained viral fame back in January after performing their catchy song “Freedom’s Call” at a rally in Pensacola, Florida. However, the group’s manager, Mark Johnson, claims the Trump campaign failed to keep their promise to provide the girls with a table to sell their CDs and subsequently canceled a scheduled performance in Florida, despite the kids having traveled all the way from Iowa. “This is how they treated us,” he expressed. “They can only ignore us for so long.”
After initially threatening legal action this past July, Johnson enlisted attorney Sarah Wright and officially filed the lawsuit earlier this month. Once the campaign receives the suit, they will have 20 days to respond. There’s no update on whether that has occurred yet.
The lawsuit seeks damages ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, which both Wright and Johnson assert is a reasonable amount. “Some might view this as opportunistic, but it’s not,” Johnson explained. They prefer to resolve the matter outside of court, yet Wright remains “confident” in their case against the former president.
Unfortunately, the news of Trump’s refusal to compensate these young performers won’t sway his dedicated supporters from voting for him this fall. Even allegations of racism and misogyny haven’t deterred them, so why would this? It’s clear he operates solely for his own benefit, and anyone who thinks otherwise is, frankly, misinformed.
As for that catchy jingle that made the group popular? The experience with Trump has left the girls so disillusioned that they now refuse to perform it. “It’s just really disappointing,” Johnson lamented.
While it’s debatable, we truly hope Johnson and his group receive the compensation they’re pursuing. Because what’s genuinely unfortunate is that amidst all the individuals Trump has let down, the list now includes a trio of young girls.
