According to a recent survey, more than half of American men assert that the barriers preventing women from advancing in society have effectively vanished.
That’s right, ladies! Exciting news has just come in. A Pew Research Center poll revealed that 56% of American men are convinced that sexism is no longer an issue. Yes, it’s as if sexism has become as extinct as the dodo bird! The so-called “Bouncer of Equality” has told sexism to hit the road, and somehow, men seem to believe that gender equality has already been achieved. How delightful for us women, right?
Just like some white individuals claim racism is a thing of the past, many men feel certain that women enjoy the same opportunities as they do. One gentleman even took to social media recently to enlighten a woman about this very notion.
If only we could listen better, right?
Now, it’s important to acknowledge that while women are still underrepresented in certain fields, this is attributed to personal shortcomings rather than systemic sexism. As noted by some media outlets in July, “Women just need to improve their interviewing skills.” So, ladies, maybe it’s time to brush up on your interview techniques before raising complaints. Additionally, consider the perks: the few women in your office might have their own bathroom while the majority of men share one. Sure, access to well-paying jobs is valuable, but having your own restroom stall could be seen as a win. It’s a small victory, but a victory nonetheless!
Interestingly, the same survey indicated that women have a different perspective. Approximately 63% of women believe that sexism remains a significant concern. It’s disheartening. If only more women would heed the majority male opinion, they might find themselves feeling less frustrated. Yes, women still face wage disparities, lack of paid parental leave, threats of violence for voicing their opinions, objectification, and ongoing attempts to control their reproductive rights. But hey, at least we have a female presidential candidate to celebrate, right? And while her opponent has a questionable history regarding women, we can still look forward to those mostly empty bathroom stalls!
