A Mother’s Guide to Crafting the Perfect Breakfast in Bed

Dear Kids,

Let me start by expressing my heartfelt appreciation for your desire to treat me to breakfast in bed. It’s a truly lovely gesture, and I’m thrilled to see how thoughtful you are.

That said, I have a few tips that could enhance our breakfast-in-bed experience:

  1. Timing is Everything: You don’t need to wake me at the crack of dawn. The sun can rise without the hustle and bustle of early morning kitchen chaos.
  2. Cleanliness Counts: Given the adventures your hands have been on, a quick wash before cooking could go a long way (trust me on this one).
  3. Spills Happen, But: While I understand accidents occur, using the entire roll of paper towels might be a tad excessive. A few will do!
  4. Ask for Help: I know you’re eager to do it all yourself, but if that milk jug is too heavy, don’t hesitate to ask for a little assistance.
  5. Coffee Matters: I adore my morning coffee, but please ensure it’s free of those pesky grounds floating around.
  6. Ingredient Management: If you finish off the last of something, do us both a favor and toss out the empty container instead of leaving it for me to find.
  7. Sugar Control: If sugar is on the menu, try to carry the container to the canister instead of leaving a sugary path across the counter.
  8. Presentation, Not Perfection: While I appreciate a nice setup, please leave the fancy glassware and fine china for another time.
  9. No Nibbles, Please: I’d prefer my food unbitten and my spoons unlicked!
  10. Drop It, Don’t Pick It Up: If something falls, it’s best to grab a fresh one instead of trying to salvage it, especially if it has visible hairs on it.

My dear children, no matter what you bring, I’ll cherish it because it comes from you. However, following even a few of these suggestions could help us avoid a sticky floor, a messy countertop, or any broken dishes.

On second thought, how about just a simple bowl of cereal? A bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios sounds fantastic! In fact, why not pour yourself a bowl too? We can enjoy breakfast in bed together.

Much love,
Mom
