18 Non-Negotiable Rules I Stand Firm On For My Kids – Seriously!

As a parent, I’ve established some strict, unwavering rules that I refuse to bend for my kids. With three little ones in the house, these guidelines have actually proven to be quite effective. Here’s a glimpse into my parenting philosophy that might inspire you to create your own set of boundaries:

  1. The children are not permitted in our bedroom.
  2. Well, they can enter, but they definitely cannot sleep in our bed.
  3. They may only sleep in our bed if they’re seriously unwell, frightened, or if they’ve had an unfortunate accident in their own bed and we’re too exhausted to deal with sheets at 3 AM.
  4. No stealing our pillows is allowed.
  5. A parent must kindly request a small section of the pillow for themselves.
  6. Candy is off-limits for the kids.
  7. On weekdays, candy is strictly forbidden.
  8. The only exception is when we’re at Target and we have to hand over lollipops just to maintain a semblance of peace while we shop for essentials.
  9. They might get candy if we’re at a birthday party, find a hidden stash of treats in my purse, or if we encounter a bowl of candy at the bank or hair salon.
  10. Candy consumption is limited to 5 to 10 pieces per day.
  11. Video games are not allowed.
  12. No video games during the weekdays.
  13. No gaming before school on weekdays.
  14. The only time they can play video games before school is if they’ve brushed their teeth.
  15. If they’ve taken care of their dental hygiene, my kids can decide when they think it’s an appropriate time to play, any given day.
  16. To sum it all up, under normal circumstances, the kids are not allowed in our room, to eat candy, or to play video games—period. However, there might be rare moments when our patience runs thin, and we end up breaking our own rules for a bit of peace.
  17. One last thing: McDonald’s is off the table.
  18. Okay, fine! Once in a blue moon, we might make an exception, but it’s a rare treat!

And I’m serious about all of this.

Yes, really.
