Most of the time, the moments catch me off guard.

It’s in the way you rise with the dawn, your hair a delightful mess, much like mine—tangled and wild, your blankets snugly wrapped around your shoulders, and your tiny feet perched on your favorite princess sheets.

It’s in that pure gaze you offer me, untouched by the makeup you might one day plead to wear, and my heart aches because you can’t see yourself as I do.

It’s the sight of you racing across the yard, laughter bubbling with your sibling, your carefree spirit moving without a hint of the self-doubt that many will face as they grow.

In those fleeting moments, dear daughter, the realization of your beauty washes over me—a truth you may never fully grasp, but one I will always cherish.

I often wonder when you will first begin to ponder how others perceive you. When will you tug at your clothes, adjusting this and that in a mirror that will never reflect the beauty I see?

I ponder when you will wear that first frown, becoming your own toughest critic, rolling your eyes when I insist you look stunning.

Because I genuinely mean it, my sweet girl—you might pluck, diet, and shape to fit some ideal, but you will always be the most breathtaking sight for me.

You will forever evoke wonder, just as you did the moment they placed you, warm and wailing, on my chest in the delivery room. It felt like we were old friends reunited after a long separation, rather than a mother meeting her daughter for the first time.

Sometimes, I find myself simply observing you. I know it sounds a bit strange, but as a mother, it’s hard not to feel a little crazy when your heart is walking around outside your body in a world filled with challenges.

I watch you because every detail about you, from the freckles on your legs to the way you tuck your hair behind your ears, captivates me.

The depth of my love for you can be overwhelming. I have to remind myself to take a step back, not to scare you with my emotional intensity. I still remember crying at your kindergarten graduation, realizing I had many more milestones ahead.

I want to capture the beauty I see in you—the way you leap, the peacefulness of your slumber, the spontaneous hugs you offer without a second thought. When the time comes that you begin to measure yourself against others, I wish I could hold up a mirror that reflects what I see: your strength, intelligence, kindness, and every unique quality that makes you so special.

Because, dear daughter, you are incredibly beautiful.

And even though there may come a time when you doubt it, I will always be here to remind you.
