Parenting can be both rewarding and challenging. We pour our hearts and souls into raising our children because we love them deeply. We nurtured them, carried them, and continue to support them every day. But let’s be real—sometimes, the journey of motherhood can feel overwhelming. If you’re reading this, you understand all too well.
I recently caught up with an old friend, a brilliant woman with unwavering loyalty. Now a mom, she’s faced judgment from others simply because of her role as a parent, and that infuriated me. It made me realize how crucial it is for mothers to have daily affirmations. We need to remind ourselves of our strength and resilience. We are incredible, and we deserve to feel that way.
So, here are some empowering affirmations for moms—what I like to call “Momfirmations.” You can recite these while brushing your teeth, nursing, or even taking a moment for yourself:
- “I’m a fierce warrior.” I created a human being! Whether through childbirth, adoption, or being a surrogate, I am a fierce warrior. The journey is unique for everyone, but the strength it takes remains the same.
- “I have feelings too.” Once you become a mother, it can feel like your identity fades into the background. But let’s be clear—you are a person with emotions and needs, and you deserve love and care just as much as anyone else. It’s a truth we all need to remember.
- “They don’t know my story.” When you encounter judgmental stares from strangers, just keep repeating, “They don’t know my story.” If someone gives you a hard time because your child is having a moment (and they will), just remember that their opinions don’t matter unless they’re offering you a candy bar or a drink!
- “Their lack of understanding is on them.” This is especially for those friends who don’t grasp the complexities of parenting. They may be too wrapped up in their own lives, and frankly, they don’t deserve a spot in your circle. You’re juggling a million things while they’re busy fretting over trivial matters. Surround yourself with those who get it—you deserve that.
- “You are capable. You will succeed. You’re amazing at this.” When you feel like giving up, remind yourself that your kids look up to you. They rely on you, and they love you unconditionally. You’re the reason they’re thriving, and you’re doing a fantastic job. Don’t forget it!
The secret to motherhood isn’t a hidden truth; it’s found in those small, beautiful moments. Whether it’s a loving kiss from your child or a compliment from a friend saying, “You’ve got this,” those little instances are what make it all worthwhile. Compile them in your mind as a treasure trove of memories to draw upon when times get tough. Reflect on them when you feel overwhelmed, and you’ll find the strength to push through.
