In an unsettling incident in Franklin, Tennessee, a confident teenage boy named Jake Anderson made a stunning statement at his prom by wearing a beautiful red dress. While he and his boyfriend were outside a hotel taking photos, an adult man approached them and began to verbally harass Jake for his choice of attire. Fortunately, the man, who was the CEO of a telemedicine company called HealthConnect, has since lost his job.

Jake looked fabulous in his flowing gown, and he expressed his perspective on fashion, stating, “I see clothing as gender-neutral. I felt beautiful and confident.” Sadly, Mark Thompson, the adult in question, did not share that sentiment. Thompson was filmed following the boys and making derogatory comments, including calling Jake “an idiot” for wearing a dress.

In the viral video, Jake responded, “I’m sorry, I’m gorgeous,” to which Thompson retorted, “Are you?” Other adults nearby were heard encouraging Thompson to leave the boys alone, but he continued to hurl insults. Jake’s boyfriend, Max Richards, recorded part of the encounter and described Thompson’s behavior as homophobic and offensive. “He kept saying things like, ‘You look ridiculous, men shouldn’t wear this,’” Max recounted.

HealthConnect fired Thompson just days after the footage gained attention online, a move that many applauded. The company released a statement emphasizing their commitment to respect and inclusivity, noting that Thompson’s actions were completely at odds with their values.

In a later interview, Thompson claimed he was simply trying to enter a nearby restaurant, but his behavior suggested otherwise. Max articulated a vital point, saying, “You can think what you want, but there’s no need to publicly shame and harass a teenager on their special night.”
