As if their annual shirtless calendars and new firefighter pillowcases weren’t enough to brighten up the past few challenging months, a group of Australian firefighters has gifted us with a delightful nearly four-minute video. In this festive clip, these hunky heroes, clad in suspenders, can be seen lovingly petting, cuddling, and cradling adorable rescue puppies and kittens wearing Santa hats. The charm is heightened by the gentle fall of faux snow on their likely freshly waxed bodies as they wave and blow kisses to the camera, all set to a cover of Mariah Carey’s holiday classic, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” performed by Diamond White.
“Merry Christmas from the Australian Firefighters Calendar,” they cheerfully announce.
This video follows the release of their much-anticipated merchandise—the pillowcases—and their annual shirtless calendar, which raises funds for various animal charities, including the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, where they are constructing Australia’s first mobile wildlife hospital.
David Rogers, the director of the Australian Firefighters Calendar, shared, “This year, we decided to focus all our efforts on Australian wildlife.” The devastating bushfires have deeply affected everyone, and the loss of wildlife is simply unimaginable.
The funds from the 2021 Animal Lovers Calendar will specifically aid injured wildlife impacted by the recent fires, which resulted in the loss of approximately 1 billion animals in Australia last year and early 2020. Meanwhile, proceeds from the cat and dog calendars will support rescue organizations like Safe Haven Animal Rescue and All Breeds Canine Rescue, along with Australian Seabird Rescue and Wildcare Inc.
Cameron Lawson, a leading firefighter with Fire Rescue New South Wales, stated, “After battling the fires and witnessing the suffering of wildlife, my crew felt compelled to do more.” They have donated to care for a koala named Anwen and have been inspired to protect wildlife after seeing the efforts of volunteers at the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital firsthand.
Last year’s calendar sales provided critical support for Currumbin Wildlife Hospital, allowing them to acquire new equipment and supplies for nearly six months, during which Dr. Michael Pyne and his team worked tirelessly to save numerous animals. “The donations from the calendar were vital during the bushfires; they helped save many animals,” Dr. Pyne remarked.
Now in its 28th year, the Australian Firefighters Calendar has raised over $3.2 million for various charities. So go ahead, hit play on the Australian Firefighters’ Christmas video, and consider adding a pillowcase or calendar to your online shopping cart, and help make a difference this holiday season.
