A woman has filed a sexual assault lawsuit against a former police officer involved in Breonna Taylor’s tragic death, alleging a pattern of predatory behavior. Brett Hankison, who was dismissed from the Louisville police department after the incident, faces serious accusations from multiple women, including claims of sexual harassment and assault.
Sarah James’s Account
In an account shared on social media, a woman named Sarah James detailed her experience from 2018, when she was 22. While intoxicated at a bar where Hankison was providing security, he offered her a ride home. Feeling safe due to his badge, she accepted. However, once at her residence, Hankison reportedly forced his way inside and assaulted her after she lost consciousness in her bedroom. The lawsuit states that Hankison “willfully, intentionally, painfully and violently sexually assaulted Sarah.” When she regained awareness and demanded he leave, he fled the scene, leaving her traumatized and injured.

James is not alone in her experience. Another woman, Lisa Brown, shared a similar encounter on social media, recounting how Hankison made unwanted advances while driving her home from a bar. Fortunately, she was able to escape the situation, but when her friend reported it to the police, no action was taken.
James’s lawsuit has revealed additional allegations from at least eight other women, all of whom claim Hankison exhibited similar misconduct, often after offering rides home from the same bar. Despite these serious allegations, Hankison previously faced no disciplinary action from the Louisville Metro Police Department, even after an investigation into claims that he sought sexual favors in exchange for not pressing charges against a woman.
Current Legal Status
Hankison is currently out on bail and awaiting trial for charges related to the Breonna Taylor case, specifically for “wanton endangerment in the first degree,” which pertains to endangering the lives of Taylor’s neighbors. Notably, no officers involved in the shooting that led to Taylor’s death have been charged with her actual death.
