In the United States, one in three families faces the challenge of diaper need—the inability to afford diapers for their little ones. This situation is distressing, yet you can make a difference right now. Huggies is collaborating with families across the nation to tackle this issue head-on.
Here’s How You Can Participate:
- Gather your baby, a partner or a friend, and a box of Huggies.
- Play the song “Suavemente” by Elvis Crespo and showcase your best family-friendly dance moves.
- Challenge a friend to join in on the fun.
- Share your video on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok using the hashtag #MerengueForMoms (or submit it directly to us here).
Videos should be no longer than 30 seconds.
Make sure to post your video by 12/31/19 with the hashtag #MerengueForMoms to be included.
For each video shared with the #MerengueForMoms hashtag from 12/3/19 to 12/31/19, Huggies will donate 100 diapers (up to a total of 1 million) to the National Diaper Bank Network, which supports the one in three American families grappling with diaper need.
Understanding Diaper Need
Diaper need affects millions of families. Five million children under three live in low-income households (below 200% of the poverty line). Unfortunately, government assistance programs do not recognize diapers as a basic need. The lack of access to diapers can significantly impact parents’ ability to work or attend school—three in five parents report missing work or school due to not having sufficient diapers for childcare.
The National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), established with support from Huggies, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating diaper need in America. NDBN member programs support 200,000 children each month. Huggies has already donated over 220 million diapers and wipes to this initiative, with a commitment to provide 15 million diapers annually to member programs across the U.S. and an additional 5 million through retailer events.
Fun Facts About “Suavemente”
The anthem of the #MerengueForMoms movement, “Suavemente,” was originally released in 1999 by Elvis Crespo. This track has been recognized as one of the most significant Latin albums of the past 50 years by Billboard Magazine. Crespo has generously allowed the use of his music for this charitable cause. “It was my pleasure to contribute ‘Suavemente’ to help babies in need,” Crespo stated. “The name means ‘softly, smoothly’—reflecting the gentle care every baby deserves. This is a fun way for merengue lovers to aid low-income families, so let’s all hit the dancefloor.”
