I can already anticipate the backlash this post might generate.
“Fake.” “Hypocrite.” “What a clueless person.”
I’m sure those are just a few of the terms that will be thrown my way, not just by you, but certainly by some folks out there. The judgmental ones, the quick to criticize, and those who can’t help but be unpleasant.
But you know what? If you were to ask anyone who knows me, they’d likely say that 95% of what I share — both in words and images — is a true representation of my life, my partner, my generally cheerful kids, and the wonderfully chaotic moments we navigate. My posts are authentic and honest, just like a conversation you’d have with me during a morning drop-off or a girls’ night.
Let me be clear about one thing: I EDIT MY PHOTOS. Well, most of them, at least.
From “vintage” to “urban” and “warm hues” to “cool tones,” I edit the heck out of my images. And I’m absolutely unapologetic about it. You shouldn’t be either! Seriously, there’s no reason to feel guilty about enhancing your photos.
Here’s why:
- You can’t filter out the emotions captured in a moment. Those genuine smiles and looks in my kids’ eyes are 100% real, influenced by the moment and not the editing.
- Authentic connections are evident in images. If the bond between the subjects feels forced, it will show, regardless of how much you edit.
- A little editing can boost your confidence. You deserve that pick-me-up, just like I do — so embrace it!
- Editing can make the chaos of parenting look a tad more polished. Life with kids can get overwhelming, so why not adjust your perspective with a filter to create a lighter vibe?
- It enhances the beauty that’s already there. If a photo doesn’t capture beauty naturally, no amount of editing can create it out of nothing.
- Filters allow you to present a highlight reel of your life, and who doesn’t want to share their best moments?
- They spark curiosity. Filters can keep others intrigued about your life; it’s fun for both you and your audience. “Is it her natural glow or the filter?”
- Regularly using filters actually makes your unfiltered photos stand out even more. That’s just a fact.
As parents, we often feel like we’re supposed to be in control, but the reality is that so much of parenting is unpredictable.
- The tantrums in public? Out of our hands.
- The wardrobe choices that involve the same outfit for a week? Also beyond our control.
- The inevitable messes? Yep, that’s part of the package.
- Exhaustion? A given.
But you know what is within your control? The ability to edit your photos. So take full advantage of it! Don’t feel guilty for wanting to present the best version of your life to the world.

In summary, embracing photo editing is a personal choice that can enhance your confidence and present a more polished view of your life. Don’t shy away from using filters; instead, own it!
