The other boy had a firearm, which he believed was unloaded, and in a tragic accident, shot Kevin in the chest.
The subsequent months were filled with pain and trauma. Melissa found solace in grief counseling and connected with other parents who had lost children to gun violence. Yet, every time she turned on the news, she saw similar stories unfolding: more families shattered by gun deaths.
