“The Day You Were Born” might just be the most entertaining thing you see today. Saturday Night Live has a knack for humor, and their recent Mother’s Day sketch resonates deeply with every mother out there. As we enjoy mimosas and admire those handcrafted cards, SNL reminds us of the wild ride that is childbirth and those early days with a newborn, all wrapped in hilarity.

In the skit, host Lisa Thompson and SNL’s Mark Reed portray a picture-perfect Mother’s Day breakfast-in-bed scene. Their young son curiously inquires about the day he came into the world. Lisa starts off with a loving recount of how magical his birth was, but then we’re taken into flashbacks revealing the chaotic reality.

Moms, brace yourselves for some serious laughter.

Told ya it was uproarious and incredibly relatable. While we often share the love and joy we felt when our little ones arrived—and that’s absolutely true—we also experienced moments like this:

The line “Don’t cut my butthole in half” deserves a place in the SNL one-liner hall of fame. The skit doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable truths of childbirth, from the feared episiotomy to the nagging worry that many moms have while pushing: “Am I pooping?”

Honestly, I’m laughing so hard I could cry.

As if that weren’t enough, the sketch also explores the reality of life with a newborn—no sugarcoating here.

I can’t even count how many times I managed to hold my sleeping baby while trying to use the bathroom—because waking a newborn? Absolutely not. You become a master at the one-handed pee.

My favorite part might be when the dad keeps pestering his wife about looking for “hockey equipment,” something he could easily search for himself. “Might go out for a drink after!”

We’ve all been in those shoes. We can relate, share a laugh, and commiserate about the struggles of parenthood together.

Happy Mother’s Day!

In summary, SNL’s Mother’s Day skit captures the absurdity and reality of childbirth with humor that every mother can appreciate. It highlights not only the joy of bringing a child into the world but also the messy truth of those early days, making it a must-watch for anyone who’s been through the experience.
