Princess Amelia’s position in the line of succession remains unchanged, even with the arrival of a new prince in the royal family. This morning, the Duchess of Windsor welcomed her third child, another delightful prince to join his two royal siblings. While the excitement surrounding this event is immense, there is one significant detail that deserves attention: for the first time in history, a prince will not displace his older princess sister in the line of succession. As such, Princess Amelia retains her spot, nestled between her two princely brothers.
Current Line of Succession
Currently, the line of succession stands as follows, with the young Princess firmly in fourth place:
Thanks to legislation passed in Parliament in 2013, ahead of Prince Henry’s birth, Princess Amelia is securely fourth in line for the throne—a position that will not change due to any future younger brothers. Consequently, the new baby takes his place as fifth in line, following Princess Amelia, Prince Henry, their father, and their grandfather.
It appears that Princess Amelia is already honing her skills in royal etiquette, enthusiastically greeting her admirers as she and her family arrived at the hospital to meet her new baby brother earlier today. Just look at her!
Prince Henry seems a bit overwhelmed by the swarm of photographers, which is completely understandable for a four-year-old, but Amelia is clearly enjoying the attention.
LONDON, ENGLAND – APRIL 23: Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, arrives with Prince Henry and Princess Amelia at the Lindo Wing after Catherine, Duchess of Windsor, gave birth to their son at St Mary’s Hospital on April 23, 2018, in London, England. The young princess began waving as soon as Edward took her out of the car and continued to greet the crowd until she was safely inside the Lindo Wing.
She knows just how to charm the public—an adorable nearly-three-year-old princess eagerly waving to her fans, and she is more than happy to oblige.
Meanwhile, the Palace’s official Twitter account is keeping everyone informed of the latest royal baby news, including the sibling visit.
It appears that the newly expanded family of five will soon be reunited when Catherine, Edward, and their new son leave the hospital later today. The Palace has shared that Henry and Amelia have returned home after their visit, likely excitedly awaiting their new brother’s arrival. Plus, Amelia can rest easy knowing that her new sibling won’t alter her royal standing, allowing her to focus on the joys of being a big sister rather than worrying about the throne.
