I cannot propose a solution to this problem, but I am resolute in my stance: I am not interested in discussions that prioritize the rights to bear arms over the safety of our children. My position is firm.
When individuals of the same sex or gender wish to love each other and enjoy the same rights as heterosexual couples, they deserve that freedom. Their choices affect no one else’s life and only enrich our communities with more love. This issue is non-negotiable for me, and I am perfectly content with that.
Transgender individuals should have the right to use the restroom that corresponds with their gender identity and receive workplace protections. I have yet to encounter any compelling arguments against these rights, so I remain unwavering in my support.
When unarmed Black individuals are killed by law enforcement, and some choose to defend the status quo instead of confronting the systemic racism embedded in our justice system, I lose respect for those who refuse to acknowledge the suffering of innocent lives. This conversation is closed for me; there is no merit in racist rhetoric, and the discussion of racism is not up for debate. We resolved this issue long ago, and if you’re not aware of that, it’s time to educate yourself.
I do not claim to be a “tolerant liberal.” I reject the notion of tolerating false equivalencies. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, allow me to clarify: it refers to arguments that unjustly equate two sides in a dispute, suggesting that both are equally at fault. Such reasoning undermines historical injustices and the pain endured by countless individuals.
You may label me however you wish, but if your critique is that I lack open-mindedness, then you’ve made your point—I embrace that description.
